BENGALINE (#3)
(Samantha Grace Designs, 2017)
Bengaline
fabric is a great looking, thick-grained taffeta. It is a durable plain
weave fabric that is characterised by width wise cords formed by using fine
warp yarns and course weft yarns. Bengaline was first made of silk in
Bengal, India. Imagine grosgrain ribbon as a fabric - that is bengaline.
The bengalines we use in our designs are produced by a US manufacturer who has
been proudly producing them in the USA for over 62 years. We started using
bengalines because of its durability and its color vibrancy. You will be
able to choose these solid colors for many of our products but they are not available
in laminate form so when choosing laminate fabric for your item, note that
these will not be one of your choices. We use these fabrics mainly as
interiors for our bags, reverse accent fabric for our aprons and reverse
sides on our fabric placemats. We also use them for many of our themed
lanyards. When a product can use one of these fabrics, we will give you the
option to choose it. (Samantha Grace Designs, 2017)
BIRDSEYE (#4)
Caused by unintentional tucking from malfunctioning
needle. Usually two small distorted stitches, side by side. This term should
not be confused with birdseye fabric which is in fact created intentionally.
A fabric woven with a pattern of small diamonds, each having a dot in the
center. A general term for a fabric with a surface texture of small,
uniform spots that suggest bird's eyes. Can be woven or knit. (TetileGlossary, 2017)
BOUCLE (#5)
(Fabricspro)
The classic boucle (boo-clay) jacket was popularized by
the iconic French fashion designer Coco Chanel decades ago, and the look is
still on-trend today. Though the term has become synonymous with the elegance
of a classic wool jacket, "boucle" actually refers to material made
with boucle yarn and not a specific type of garment as some people think.
Boucle yarn contains loops that range in size from large, loose curls to tight
circlets. In fact, the word boucle is French and means "to curl." The
larger the loops, the more texture the finished material will contain. Like
other woven textiles, several colors can be used to create an endless variety
of designs and patterns.
Material woven from boucle yarn is used to make
sweaters, jackets, accessories and wardrobe items in many styles. Today, boucle
clothing is available in modern easy-care acrylics and blends as well as wool.
Making boucle sweaters and jackets from lightweight materials such as acrylic
gives them more versatility? boucle is no longer limited to the fall and winter
wardrobe. (Appleseeds, Inc., 2017)

hence the name. In appearance bourrette cloth is a semi-rough-faced woolen

BROADCLOTH (#7)
(Fabric.com Inc., 2017)
Broadcloth is a very popular type of dress shirt fabric. Broadcloth and Poplin are essentially the
same type of fabric. Broadcloth is a very lightweight, smooth, flat looking
fabric, with no pattern in the weave of the threads. It is similar in quality
to pinpoint fabric, but has slightly less texture. This usually means it is
slightly more transparent than and not as shiny as the pinpoint fabric.
Broadcloth fabric comes in a variety of thread counts, ranging from 50 singles
to over 140 doubles. Learn more about fabric thread count in
the sidebar here.
Broadcloth dress shirts are very
versatile. A classic white broadcloth fitted dress shirt will appear very
dressy and be perfect for formal occasions. Broadcloth makes for an excellent
wedding dress shirt, or a business interview dress shirt. Additionally, because
broadcloth is such a popular weave, you’ll find broadcloth in a variety of
weaves and colors. Depending on the pattern, these can make for an excellent
casual dress shirt. Because it is a lightweight dress shirt, it works great
year round fabric. (Proper Cloth)

CALICO (#13)
(Abby Lanes)
Calico fabric is a type of plain-woven textile made
from unprocessed and unbleached cotton. The fabric is thick and has an undyed and unfinished
appearance. Calico originates from
southwestern India and is also known as muslin. It dates back to the 11th
century and was brought by merchants to Europe from the 17th century. The
fabric is usually woven in the natural color of cotton and then printed or
dyed. Its main use is for articles of clothing. It is available in a variety of
textures, which range from fine and sheer fabric suitable for summer to
stronger and coarser textures. (IAC Publishing, LLC, 2017)
CAMBRIC (#14)
(Stitch Piece n Purl, 2017)
Cambric is a type of textile
that is made of cotton. The name of the fabric is derived from the name of a
French city, Cambrai where the textile originated. Cambric
is among the most finely woven, even textured fabrics produced in the industry.
It is translucent, lightweight and yet one of the most dense plain-weave
cloths. However, in recent years its production has declined, making pure
cambric very hard to find. On the instances that one does find Cambric, it is
of poor quality. Chambray, a similar fabric born out of the same city in
France, is however more widely produced and circulated. Nevertheless, Cambric
was commonly used in making handkerchiefs, shirtings, undergarments,
linens and fabric for lace and needlework. (Utsavpedia)
