Group 01 Ferrous Metal

Industrial design mainly achieves raw and edgy design, achieving a look that is unfinished. This concept can be distinguish in ceiling with exposed beams and the use of metal. Ferrous metal is applied in this interior space in the ceiling; the exposed beams, columns/post, the framing of the windows and the furniture used.

Group 01 Ferrous Metal

Applications of FERROUS METALS

“Ferrous metals and alloys are used in countless applications as construction materials, building structures, concrete reinforcement, ship hulls, structure, engines, tanks, weapons, magnetic cores, wires, recreational vehicles, medical devices, appliances, toys, utensils, tools, and etc.” (Engineering360, 2016), (“Ferrous Metals: Application”).

Example of Exterior Applications:

(Brownstein, L./Getty Images)

“The four primary materials used for bridges have been wood, stone, iron, and concrete. Of these, iron has had the greatest effect on modern bridges. From iron, steel is made, and steel is used to make reinforced and prestressed concrete. Modern bridges are almost exclusively built with steel, reinforced concrete, and prestressed concrete.” (Billington, P. N.)

“The use of steel frames enabled buildings to reach unprecedented heights in the late 19th and 20th centuries; the Eiffel Tower (1889) in Paris was the first structure to reveal the true vertical potential of steel construction.” (Encyclopædia Britannica, Editors)

Example of Interior Applications:

(Amalkhan), (Bruyere, 2016), (City of Beverly, 2016)

Ferrous Metals are mostly used in appliances like refrigerator, washing machine, oven, toaster, cooking pans, microwave, cooktop, ventilation, utensils, counter top, sinks, and etc.

Ferrous Metals are also found in factory loft interior design such as cast iron for ceiling supports, chair legs, electric fan, beams, and etc. Classic craft iron cast spindles in black color with wrought iron could be applied in various ways like stair handrails design. Even rust itself could be a design; with rusty corrugated iron on the walls and salvaged lighting, thus your interior will look this amazing.

Our everyday personal encounter with ferrous metals:

The whole frame of vehicles are composed of ferrous metals coated with different kinds of paints. Even post sign stands are made of ferrous metals.
